Temporary Full Time Integrated Reading and Writing Faculty

About the role

The Instructor, Integrated Reading and Writing, is responsible for teaching developmental English courses that strengthen students' reading comprehension, writing, and academic communication skills. This position supports student learning through instruction, feedback, and progress evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Meet classes at assigned times.
• Plan course content, lessons, and assignments aligned with course outcomes.
• Select appropriate texts, materials, and instructional resources.
• Maintain student records and attendance.
• Evaluate student progress, provide feedback, and assign grades.
• Communicate with students about progress, concerns, and strategies for success.
• Maintain office hours convenient for students.
• Prepare course and class reports as required.
• Attend required meetings, training, and assessment activities.
• Aid in student learning outcomes assessment at the course, program, and institution level.
• Keep abreast of developments in reading, writing, and developmental education.
• Demonstrate lifelong learning through the reading of current research and journal articles.
• Support student success through encouragement, guidance, and appropriate referrals when needed.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in English, reading, composition, or a closely related field.
• Experience teaching integrated reading and writing, developmental English, or first-year composition.
• Strong knowledge of reading comprehension and writing instruction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to support a diverse student population.
• Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems.
