About the role

New England College of Optometry, a professional graduate school located in Boston's Historic Back Bay, seeks a professional and diligent individual for a temporary full-time housekeeper position. The role has the potential to become a permanent FT role.

Schedule

  • Monday – Thursday: 2pm – 11pm
  • Friday & Saturday: OFF
  • Sunday: 7:30am – 7pm

Pay

$20.00/hour

Responsibilities

  • Floor and rug cleaning; scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubbers and buffers in accordance with all safety rules including OSHA regulations
  • Shampooing rugs using shampooing equipment following all operating and safety instructions
  • Cleaning and sanitizing rest rooms, drinking fountains, locker rooms, etc.
  • Cleaning and polishing furniture (desks, tables, book cases, file cabinets, brass, stainless steel)
  • Moving and setting up office furniture and other furniture/equipment needed for college functions and operations; moving custodial equipment upstairs in areas where elevators are not available
  • Seasonal snow removal using snow blowers and shovels
  • Using equipment such as floor buffers, wet/dry vacuums, shampoo equipment, snow blowers; dollies, hand trucks, and rolling carts to assist in furniture/equipment movement; small hand tools for equipment adjustments and maintenance
  • Properly caring for and maintaining equipment under charge (vacuums, floor machines, etc.)
  • Wearing provided uniforms at all times; maintaining cleanliness of uniforms; wearing eye and hearing protection during certain tasks
  • Emptying and cleaning interior and exterior waste baskets and receptacles; delivering waste to designated collecting area
  • Maintaining and monitoring immediate building exterior
  • Cleaning and dusting ledges, corners, baseboards, and all furniture without disturbing personal belongings
  • Participating in training to remain current with standard operational practices and revised standards
  • Following proper clean-up and recycling procedures and observing all safety rules (including OSHA regulations) while handling tools and equipment to avoid injury
  • Reporting building damages, malfunctioning equipment, needed maintenance and/or repairs in assigned work areas
  • Responding to campus cleaning emergencies and emergency call-in situations
  • Properly using and caring for tools, radios, and equipment

Physical demands

Range from LIGHT to MEDIUM HEAVY. Heaviest demands occur during moving and handling cleaning equipment and furniture, especially up stairways where elevators are not available. Requires lifting and handling from 25 to 75 pounds on an occasional to frequent basis; heavier tasks may require assistance of two or more co-workers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-3 years related experience preferred
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position
  • Must be able to read, write, and interpret documents in English (safety rules, MSDS, operating/repair/installation/procedure instruction manuals)
  • Must be able to effectively interact and communicate with co-workers and supervisors

  • This is an essential employee position and may require performing work on days when the college is closed
