Temporary - Facilities Maintenance Assistant

About the role

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking temporary full-time Facilities Maintenance Assistants to support the upkeep and maintenance of various public-use facilities.

Responsibilities

• Support daily operations and upkeep of multiple public-use facilities.
• Aid in basic repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Restock supplies and organize equipment.
• Check on janitorial and lawn care contractors to ensure work meets standards.
• Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Requirements

• A valid Iowa driver’s license.
• General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and masonry.
• Ability to work independently and travel between sites as needed.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn safety, sanitation, and compliance procedures.
• Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.

Qualifications

No specific education required. General knowledge in any of the recognized building and mechanical trades (carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, machinist, machine repair, masonry, painting, pipefitting, plumbing, refrigeration, and welding) is required.

Skills

Reliability, hands-on skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
