Temporary Duty-Free Lunch Assistant - Donahoe Elementary

Location: Cashell Donahoe Elementary School - 1801 Graves Road, Sandston
Minimum salary: $16.98/hour
Position is hourly/temporary, approximately 2.5 hours per day (not to exceed 29 hours per week). Schedule assigned by the principal.

About the Role

The Duty-Free Lunch Assistant supports school staff by supervising students during lunch periods, allowing teachers uninterrupted duty-free time for planning and rest. This role ensures a safe, orderly, and positive environment in the cafeteria, playground, or designated lunch areas.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during lunch periods in designated areas (cafeteria, playground, or classrooms).
• Maintain a safe and respectful environment by enforcing school rules and behavior expectations.
• Monitor student conduct and promote positive social interactions.
• Assist students with opening food containers, managing spills, and basic needs when necessary.
• Respond to minor incidents and report concerns or disciplinary issues to appropriate staff.
• Ensure students clean up after themselves and maintain cleanliness of lunch areas.
• Facilitate transitions to and from lunch, including lining up and dismissal procedures.
• Communicate effectively with teachers and school administration regarding any issues or observations.
• Regular attendance is required.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to manage groups of students in a calm and respectful manner.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
• Experience working with children in a school is preferred.
