Temporary Custodian II

About the Role

The Temporary Custodian II is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary facility for the Texas Department of Public Safety. This full-time, non-exempt position is a temporary assignment through November 30, 2026, with a pay rate of $20.00 per hour, paid weekly. The work schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., at the location: 12230 West Road, Houston, TX 77065.

Responsibilities

• Daily Cleaning Duties:
  • Dust and wipe surfaces throughout the facility.
  • Clean doors, glass, and other designated surfaces.
  • Disinfect drinking fountains and clean exterior surfaces of breakroom appliances.
  • Collect trash from designated perimeter areas and empty/clean trash containers.
• Restroom Cleaning and Sanitation:
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and partitions.
  • Restock restroom dispensers as needed.
  • Mop restroom floors using disinfectant.
• Floor Care:
  • Sweep, mop, and spot-clean VCT flooring.
  • Vacuum carpets weekly or as needed.
  • Clean floor mats and move chairs to clean underneath and around them.
• Monthly and Semi-Annual Duties:
  • Clean interior glass surfaces (monthly).
  • Dust and vacuum high ledges, vents, door frames, and elevated surfaces (monthly).
  • Strip and wax VCT flooring (every six months).
• Additional Pandemic-Related Services (if activated):
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces, handrails, and electronics.
  • Sanitize restrooms, breakrooms, and public areas.
  • Follow CDC-approved cleaning and disinfection protocols.

General Requirements

• Follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines and safety procedures.
• Keep janitorial closets clean, organized, and secure.
• Promptly report maintenance issues to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
• Complete the required Janitorial Service Report after each service.
• Properly manage and return access badges at the end of the contract.

Work Environment and Expectations

The successful candidate must be able to perform routine custodial duties, follow established cleaning schedules, maintain sanitary conditions, and comply with facility safety and security procedures.
