About the role

Under general direction, incumbent(s) coaches sports activities to students, including creating game plans, observing practice drills, and explaining safety, rules, and history of the sport. Incumbent(s) schedules activities and tournaments, prepares area of use, and sets up appropriate staff needed to carry out practices and games.

Responsibilities

• Creates game plans.
• Creates practice drills to implement game plan during competition.
• Observes students during practice to detect and correct mistakes.
• Oversees students during competition and tournaments.
• Schedules buses, staff, referees, custodial, and cafeteria that are needed to carry out practices and games.
• Ensures students are picked up by appropriate person(s).
• Prepares area of use (i.e. gym, field, etc.).
• Communicates expectations, status, schedules, and rules of the athletic program to the school administration, staff, parents, and students.
• Holds parent-athlete meetings.
• Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations.
• Lectures on history and purposes of sport.
