About the role
The Art Teacher will work with students across multiple age groups and ability levels, adapting lessons to meet individual needs while fostering creativity, confidence, and self-expression through visual art.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate art lessons tailored to the students' needs and developmental capacity
- Adapt instruction and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles, sensory needs, and motor abilities
- Create a supportive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and support staff to align art instruction with the school's DIRFloortime® principles
- Maintain a safe and organized art classroom and manage supplies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Experience working with children with special needs and/or autism strongly preferred
- Understanding of sensory-sensitive teaching strategies and differentiated instruction
- Strong classroom management skills with a calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
