Temporary Animal Shelter Attendant

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Prepare food, feed, and water animals.
• Clean and disinfect animal kennels, rooms, cages, bedding, food bowls, etc.
• Bathe animals.
• Provide medical care for animals.
• Sweep and mop floors.
• Pick up fecal matter.
• Show animals to the public.
• Walk dogs.
• Oversee visitors and volunteers.
• Provide information to the public in a friendly manner.
• Collect license, impound, adoption, and housing fees.
• Tend to the pet supply store by stocking inventory and ringing up transactions.
• Enter information about animals and other items into the appropriate database.
• Keep animal control officers and other staff updated on any need for medical care of the animals.
• Operate the shelter independently.
• Perform intakes and initial animal assessments.
• Process animals during out-processing.

Knowledge, Skills And Other Characteristics

• Work well with little supervision.
• Basic computer skills, including understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel, and mastery of shelter software.
• Basic knowledge of animal types, breeds, identification, and care.
• Basic cash handling and counting back change.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexibility in scheduling.
• Ability to work major holidays occasionally.
• Previous experience working with animals is a plus.

Position Details

This is a non-benefited temporary position. Schedules may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, up to 7.5 hours per day.
