Job Summary

Assists in providing and delivering specific ancillary services to residents as they pertain to transportation of resident to and from certain prescribed destinations.

Essential Functions

  • Receives and follows schedules/instructions from the RCFE Health Service Assistant/Coordinator and RCFE Health Service Manager.
  • Performs routine emergency driving assignments to medical clinics and hospitals; performs various driving errands including recreation trips, as needed.
  • Aid residents with or without wheelchairs in and out of vehicles.
  • Follows through on completion of assignments, overcoming obstacles and increasing efforts where necessary.
  • Responsible for petty cash for medical co-payments, Kaiser pharmacy, CVS pharmacy, etc. Reconcile monthly billing, complete coding, submit for approval by RCFE Health Service Manager and submit for payment.
  • Performs routine and emergency driving assignments to medical clinics and hospitals; performs various driving errands including recreation trips, as needed.
  • Maintains contact with Masonic Homes via cell phone as needed and calls 911 in case of a medical emergency.
  • Performs basic safety inspections prior to any assigned trip. Records mileage and gas before and after trip.
  • Reports and responds to all emergencies as needed.
  • Learns and understands Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Works independently and within a team on special and non-recurring and ongoing projects.
  • Makes practical decisions and recommendations reflecting logical analysis of problems and/or issues.
  • Conveys information in a concise, accurate and understandable manner.
  • Displays attentiveness, tact, and diplomacy in responding to others.
  • Attends to mechanical/body damage, by reporting it immediately to Director of Environmental Services.
  • Trains new staff on vehicle inspections, emergencies, and transferring residents in and out of vehicles.
  • Train staff on proper usage of transporting residents in and out of handicap accessible van.
  • Attends to mandatory department meetings and in-service education.
  • Assist residents with needs as appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Abilities And Experience

  • Good driving record with at least 2 years driving experience.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors, and the general public, and be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Previous working experience with the elderly is desirable.
  • Driver must be safe and safety conscious at all times.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative in accomplishing responsibilities.

Educational Requirements/Licenses/Certificates

  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities listed, typically: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a clean DMV record.
  • Maintain a class C license with option of class A or B with passenger endorsement or a Class II license.
  • First Aid certification.
