Position Purpose
The information technology (IT) Financial/Budget Analyst, reporting through the IT Business Operations department, serves as a key resource for financial planning for University Technology Services (UTS) at Oakland University and coordinates among technical units to help ensure efficient, strategic financial resource planning.
Job Duties
- Coordinating directly with the CIO and IT leadership staff to develop the UTS budget
- Tracking and monitoring UTS expenditures and working to ensure purchases align with budgetary constraints and cost-saving initiatives
- Developing plans for the appropriate allocation of resources to IT departments
- Overseeing critical tasks such as cost management, funding proposals, grants management, and financial reporting
- Regularly collaborating with IT procurement, project management, and coordinators to address department needs
- Supporting UTS risk management by assessing and mitigating financial risks
- Conducting financial planning and forecasting for UTS
- Balancing monthly ledgers for UTS
- Working with campus departments, including University Technology Services, analyze and evaluate multi-year and long-term cost projections related to total project costs for technology solutions
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a financial skillset related to accounting, budgeting, cost analysis, forecasting, financial reporting, and/or similar experience.
- Strong proficiency in spreadsheets, using but not limited to (MS Excel, Google Sheets, etc.).
- Proficiency with data analysis tools, including Excel, and/or budgeting software.
- Excellent Microsoft and Google Workspace skills.
- Experience in clerical accounting/bookkeeping.
- Experience in analyzing and tracking contracts along with software and support renewals.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with university constituents.
- Ability to work well with all levels of employees and understand the need for confidentiality.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to multitask.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Course work or certifications in Accounting.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools SQL, and/or advanced budgeting software.
- Experience in Higher Education and their accounting principles.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP (Banner) or others.
- Experience in GAAP \ Fund Based Accounting.
- Experience working in IT or relevant education a plus.
- Any experience in IT contract management and compliance.
