Various elementary locations: hours vary by site, as needed. Maximum of 15 hours per week.
About the Role
The Group Leader provides for the health, safety, and well-being of all children during after-school program hours (K.A.R. 28-4-587). Under the supervision of a SAP Director or Designee, the Group Leader must implement and supervise program activities.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate emotional maturity and sound judgment to foster positive, healthy relationships with children (K.A.R. 28-4-587).
- Understand and implement age-appropriate activities and services.
- Participate in at least 15 inservice hours of training per school year to meet KDHE requirements.
- Supervise children outdoors, on field trips, and during various weather conditions.
- Accommodate children or youth with special needs requiring specialized services, interventions, or technologies (K.A.R. 28-4-576 (k)).
- Provide child care and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, children, and parents.
- Change assignments on short notice and perform in a positive, cooperative manner.
- Make decisions, prioritize tasks, and direct children in case of an emergency.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Must be free from physical, mental, and emotional handicaps that could impact the health, safety, and welfare of children (K.A.R. 28-4-590).
- Ability to walk long distances, respond rapidly in emergencies, stand for long periods, bend, twist, balance, stoop, and climb steps.
- Lift up to 20 pounds and report to work on time.
Requirements
- Knowledge of child development.
- Knowledge of KDHE regulations for school-age programs.
- Knowledge of SAP record-keeping, procedures, and routines.
- Ability to supervise, communicate clearly, and give directions to children (K.A.R. 28-4-587).
- At least 1 year of experience working with children (preferred).
