Telecommunications Technician
About the role
Lumen is a network provider that connects people, data, and applications through its fiber network and ecosystem. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing copper and fiber cables, as well as setting up and managing telecommunications services like POTS, DSL, and FTTH.
Responsibilities
- Install, splice, and test copper cables for projects, maintenance, and emergency repairs.
- Perform reel, continuity, and conformance testing using industry-standard equipment (e.g., OTDR, T-Berd).
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair existing copper networks, locating and resolving faults to ensure service continuity.
- Install, configure, and enable residential and small business telecommunication services such as POTS, HSI, VDSL, FTTH, and networking.
- Connect and manage wiring/cabling, terminals, and hardware attachments on customer premises, poles, and inside facilities.
- Read and interpret service orders, repair tickets, technical drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and maps to execute work accurately.
- Coverage testing of customer lines with test centers or designated personnel and document results per company standards.
- Interact professionally with customers to assess service requirements, confirm issues, and suggest appropriate solutions.
- Update service orders, review billing information, and advise customers on equipment features, usage, and capabilities.
- Identify and pursue additional revenue opportunities by recognizing potential upsell or cross-sell services during customer interactions.
- Adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and industry regulations while performing fieldwork and documenting all activities.
Requirements
Must work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays. Drive company-provided vehicle. Requires a valid state driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. May require a CDL. May require compliance with State and Federal Department of Transportation Drive Qualification Regulations, including drug and alcohol testing. Requires ability to climb and work at elevations (e.g., from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet. May require pole climbing certification. When working aloft with ladders or other equipment with weight-capacity ratings, employees must adhere to the Company safety policy and equipment weight requirements. May work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes). Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including but not limited to: lifting and/or moving objects weighing over 75 pounds. Ability to perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (e.g., extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather.).
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Must have a valid CDL. Pole climbing certification may be required. Must be able to work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in confined spaces and perform strenuous physical activities.

Pay
Pay Ranges: Minimum hourly rate: $16.30 Maximum hourly rate: $43.09
Schedule
This is a full-time position located in Bellevue, WA. The typical schedule is Monday - Saturday 8am-4:30pm. The schedule will include weekend rotations. May also include nights, holidays, and on-call rotations. May be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time.
