Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Telecommunications Systems Operations Supervisor I, and/or technical guidance and support of a Telecommunications Systems Technician III, the Telecommunications Systems Technician II is responsible for responding to and resolving public safety communications problems for State Agency clients. The duties are performed by following Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations, utilizing at a minimum, office-provided training, complex test equipment, computers, hand tools, the Telecommunications Division Manual (TDM), and technical literature. Incumbent communicates effectively on all written and verbal interactions, frequently interfacing with customers and co-workers to resolve issues and collaborate. The TST II maintains a professional and team-centered environment by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Incumbent works proficiently with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Travels to and works in remote locations, high elevations, and inclement weather conditions may be required.

Working Conditions

In Office: This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

DMV Pull Program: Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid California Driver’s License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Position Details
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. Department Information
The Public Safety Communications (PSC) Technical Services Branch provides a variety of services to PSC and the public safety agencies it serves. The Branch oversees the California Public Safety Microwave Network (CAPSNET), licensing of public safety radio spectrum with the FCC, and a host of ancillary services that support PSC’s service delivery.

  • Telecom License Requirement: To be eligible for consideration, you must possess an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator’s License or industry accepted equivalent (please refer to the Classification Specifications). Please include a copy of your license or reference your Call Number or FRN #.
