Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain wireless access points (APs), controllers, and network infrastructure supporting secure wireless operations.
- Perform wireless site surveys to assess RF coverage, identify interference, and optimize AP placement.
- Support WLAN expansion projects, ensuring seamless integration with Army NEC network architecture.
- Troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues, RF interference, and bandwidth optimization problems.
- Aid in the installation and configuration of wireless authentication mechanisms, including WPA2, 802.1X, and network segmentation.
- Install and maintain LAN cabling, structured wiring, and network switches to support wireless connectivity.
- Perform fiber optic and copper cable terminations, splicing, and testing using industry-standard tools.
- Ensure ISP cabling and network hardware comply with TIA/EIA, NEC, and Army infrastructure standards.
- Provide technical support for network outages, hardware failures, and system upgrades.
- Maintain compliance with DoD and Army IT security policies (DoDI 8500.01, AR 25-2, and Risk Management Framework guidelines).
- Implement security best practices for wireless LANs, including encryption, access controls, and secure configurations.
- Maintain compliance with DISA STIGs, IAVM patching, and Army cybersecurity directives.
- Monitor wireless network performance, ensuring optimal bandwidth utilization and signal strength.
- Diagnose connectivity issues, RF interference, and signal degradation problems.
- Utilize Wi-Fi spectrum analyzers and network monitoring tools to detect and mitigate issues.
- Support network upgrades, firmware updates, and security patching for wireless and ISP infrastructure.
- Maintain detailed installation logs, network diagrams, and performance reports.
- Document wireless coverage maps, network configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in telecommunications support, wireless LAN administration, and structured cabling.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field desired.
- Must be Security+ certified (or hold an equivalent certification in compliance with IAT Level II).
- Must hold one of the following certifications: Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA) or Certified Wireless Design Professional (CWDP).
- Additional work-related certifications desired including: Cisco Certified Network Associate – Wireless (CCNA Wireless), BICSI Installer 1 (INST1), and/or BICSI Installer 2 (INST2).
- Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting wireless access points and LAN/WAN cabling.
- Extensive knowledge of 802.11 wireless networking standards, RF troubleshooting, and Wi-Fi security protocols.
- Proficient in network cable installation, including fiber optic, CAT6, and structured cabling best practices.
- Experience performing wireless site surveys, optimizing access point placement, and ensuring RF signal integrity.
- Experience with Cisco, Aruba, or Juniper wireless networking equipment.
- Familiar with DoD network security tools, including ACAS, HBSS, and DISA STIG compliance.
- Able to interact professionally with all levels of an organization.
- Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
