Telecom/SUE Technician
About the role
Farnsworth Group is seeking a Telecom/SUE Technician in Charlotte, NC; Frisco, TX; Lisle, IL; or St. Louis, MO. The role involves working with the Utility Engineering Team on locating, mapping, construction monitoring, drafting, design, and permitting of telecommunications and utility projects. The ideal candidate will assist with site visits, prepare civil based utility drawings, and occasionally assist with permits. Training will be provided to develop the candidate into an important member of the team.
Responsibilities
- Complete site visits including utility locating, GIS mapping, documenting existing conditions, and manhole mapping
- Visit construction sites to monitor contractor safety and provide quality control
- Observe and document as-built conditions
- Provide office support for telecommunications and other utility projects using AutoCAD or other design software
- Occasionally travel overnight
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of relevant experience as a technician
- Great attitude, willingness to learn, and a team player
- Valid driver's license and insurable under company insurance
- Able to work outside in a wide variety of weather and terrain conditions
- Able to regularly lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 100 pounds
- Encourages and supports a safety-oriented culture
Qualifications
- Nice to haves: Associates Degree in Pre-engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, etc. or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
- Experience in telecommunications, fiber optic, or utility design or construction
- Experience in fiber optic, copper, or coax splicing
- Experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) locating and/or surveying
- Familiarity with utility atlases/records and/or GIS programs
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation or ARAMIS
Skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Pay
$24.00 - $34.00 per hour (Wage to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity)
