POSTING DATE: August 24, 2026 JOB TITLE: Teen Services Assistant, Grade 17 LOCATION: Headquarters Library DATE AVAILABLE: October 1, 2026 SALARY: $2,305 per month (Includes generous benefits package) HOURS: 40 hours per week Weeks 1 & 2: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:45-5:45; Wednesday: 11:15-8:15 Week 3: Monday, Tuesday: 8:45-6; Wednesday: 11:15-8:15; Thursday: 8:45-5:45; Friday: OFF; Saturday: 9:15-5:15 Week 4: Sunday: 12-5:15; Monday: OFF; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:45-5:45; Wednesday: 11:15-8:15 (Note: Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes and may be asked to work other times) EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with teens (ages 12-18 or in grades 7-12). Essential Functions The mission of Teen Services is to connect teens to people, opportunities, and resources that empower them. Staff work to accomplish this through outreach, programming, social media, and Teen Hub interactionsAssists the public in the Teen Hub while supervising and enforcing rules in a busy age-restricted spaceProactively seeks out teens to connect them to resources and opportunities that reflect their interestsDevelops, promotes, presents, and evaluates innovative programs that meet the needs of a diverse populationHelps to create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and dynamic space in the Teen HubAssists with both scheduled and impromptu tours of the Teen Hub for schools and community groupsProcesses new teen books, creates themed book displays, and helps to maintain collectionsActively participates in department and committee meetings and in online discussionsMatches readers with books and materials according to their interests and preferences Composes and contributes relevant content for the SCPLteens social media presence Attends regular training related to libraries and Teen ServicesRemains aware of safety and security at all times Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with teens (ages 12-18 or in grades 7-12).Enthusiastic and team-orientated with a passion for working with and advocating for a diverse teen populationKnowledge and appreciation of teen collectionsComfortable and proficient with technology, familiar with online and video gaming, and knowledgeable about social mediaExcellent interpersonal and customer service skills that display a positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor with the ability to interface with people from all backgrounds and age groupsGood written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and social media proficiencyCreative, flexible, and organized with a good work ethic, time management skills, and attention to detailAbility to take direction, work independently orona team, and complete assignments thoroughly and on timeBilingual in English/Spanish is a plusSCPL uses multi-factor authentication for network and program access. Employees may be required to use their personal device for MFA.Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach
