About the Role

Vanguard Classical School, a free public charter school in Colorado, is seeking enthusiastic middle and high school art teachers to join our vibrant community. We provide an exceptional education rooted in the Core Knowledge Curriculum and taught in the classical style, with a focus on academic excellence, character development, and global citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Creating a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Journalism: Leading the student news team to report on school events and sharpen their writing skills.
• Digital Art & Graphic Design: Introducing students to the basics of visual storytelling and design software.
• The Essentials: Ensuring every student is a pro at Google Suite and Microsoft Office, preparing them for high school and beyond.
• Developing and delivering lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Assessing student progress and maintaining accurate gradebooks to track academic achievement.
• Providing timely feedback to students and parents to support academic growth and development.
• Fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and integrity by enforcing school rules and expectations of honor, achievement, world citizenship, and kindness.
• Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support the overall success of the school community.
• Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Colorado Teacher License or have the ability to obtain an initial, professional, or alternative CO teaching license.
• Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Strong work ethic with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to the teaching craft.
• Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity.
• Ability to use technology seamlessly.
• Charter school awareness or experience - preferred.
• A strong liberal-arts education - a plus.
• Experience with the Core Knowledge Sequence and Classical Education - preferred.

Job Conditions

• Classroom, lunchroom, and playground environment.
• Must be able to push, pull, lift 50 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and be able to speak to a child at his or her eye level, which may include squatting or sitting on the ground.
• Occasional handling of field trip, classroom, book, or fundraising money.
• Daily decisions regarding curriculum implementation.
• Responsible for maintaining confidentiality regarding all students.
