About the role
Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Instructs and supervises students in the field of mass communications/video production and creates a safe and orderly learning environment. Position motivates students to develop an interest in and an appreciation for the mass communications field. Position develops knowledge, skills, and talents of students, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students’ interests and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Plans and implements instructional programs that adhere to system-wide goals and priorities and meet the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Instructs secondary school students in all phases of video production to include scripting, recording, editing, audio, studio lighting, directing and computer graphics in accordance with the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
- Instructs students in the use of AVID, Photoshop, After Effects and other video software.
- Develops clear and concise instructional lesson plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of preparation, instruction, and on-air time.
- Presents individual and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities.
- Communicates standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents.
- Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records. Monitors and assesses students’ academic progress.
- Makes minor adjustments to video production equipment and requests repairs as appropriate.
- Selects, requisitions, and maintains books, instructional materials, video production equipment, and instructional aids.
- Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, paraeducators, parents, and community members in the education of students.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Learns and leads students in the delivery of video morning announcements for the school.
- Supervises, monitors and assist students in various after hour productions when applicable.
- Attends staff meetings. Serves on various committees.
- Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
Qualifications
- Education, Training And Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
- Licenses And Certificates: Possession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment. OR Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment.
Physical And Environmental Conditions
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
Other Compensation
- Position may be eligible for relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay, or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement.
