Position Summary
Reports to the facility administrator. Responsible for providing virtual counseling services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. The counselor will deliver evidence-based treatment through telehealth modalities, ensuring accessible and effective care.
Essential Functions
- Provide Counseling: Deliver individual and group counseling sessions via telehealth platforms, using evidence-based therapeutic techniques such as CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing.
- Technology Utilization: Ensuring that sessions are delivered smoothly and securely. Adapt treatment approaches to the virtual environment while maintaining engagement and effectiveness.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records in compliance with state regulations and organizational policies. Document all interactions with progress notes.
- Client Education: Provide educational resources and support to clients on substance use disorders, recovery strategies, and the use of technology in treatment.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to client crises during virtual sessions, providing immediate support and coordinating emergency care if needed.
- Compliance and Ethics: Ensure all counseling services are delivered in accordance with state licensing requirements, ethical guidelines, and HIPAA regulations.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest trends and research in substance use treatment, particularly as they relate to technology-assisted care. Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Licensure: Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas.
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED required.
- Two (2) years full-time, wage-earning substance abuse treatment or substance abuse education experience also required.
- Must possess current valid licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), or current valid licensure as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) by the Texas Certification Board of Addition Professionals.
- Maintain valid licensure or certification for continued employment in the position.
- A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements
- Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
