About the role
The City of Ottawa is recruiting for a Technician in Utility Support Services. This role supports daily utility operations by ensuring materials, equipment, and supplies are received, organized, and made readily available for all utility divisions.
Responsibilities
- Support daily utility operations by ensuring materials, equipment, and supplies are received, inspected, and verified to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Issue materials and parts to utility personnel using established inventory systems (Parts Express or equivalent).
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and ensure proper storage and organization of all materials.
- Label and track inventory items, creating and updating tags as needed.
- Prepare water and electric meters and associated materials for installation.
- Maintain records of transformers and other tracked assets within designated systems.
- Auxiliary duties include operating forklift and other equipment to load, unload, and move materials; performing monthly safety checks on fire extinguishers and emergency lighting; and assisting with general facility upkeep, including basic grounds maintenance as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of basic inventory and stock control experience
- Maintain a valid driver’s license

Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of inventory control and material handling procedures
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and hand/power tools safely
- Ability to use computer systems and software related to inventory and asset management

- Ability to follow direction and work independently under general supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing priorities
Skills
- Ability to lift 80 pounds
- Repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement and manual dexterity
- Precise hand-eye coordination
