Technician - Night Shift

About the Role

HOLT Truck Leasing is seeking a Night Shift Diesel Technician for the Houston Loop location. The Service Department plays a vital role in building open, honest, and trusting relationships with customers and other departments, contributing to the Leasing department’s success. The Diesel Technician will perform diagnosis and repairs on vehicle components and systems while modeling the company’s mission and core values.

Responsibilities

• Perform unsupervised work as outlined on major repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, adhering to Leasing department and factory standards.
• Complete routine maintenance and major repairs within specified timeframes.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair non-typical vehicle issues.
• Engage with external manufacturers and warranty contacts to maximize reimbursement of services.
• Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required.
• Consult with service advisors about the status of vehicle repairs.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to all levels of technicians in the shop.
• Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs and recommend training for other technicians.
• Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders using accepted language.
• Complete all required information for successful warranty claim submission.
• Road test vehicles to evaluate noise, vibration, and harshness and determine needed actions.
• Ensure customer vehicles are kept clean and notify the service advisor of any changes in appearance or condition.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment and recommend improvements for shop safety.
• Maintain and be accountable for all Leasing and dealership-owned tools and manuals; identify issues with specialty tools and communicate them to management.
• Operate shop equipment safely, report safety issues, and recommend maintenance and repairs.
• Lead and collaborate in a team environment.
• Understand, comply with, and stay current on federal, state, and local regulations affecting service operations (e.g., hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, EPA).
• Identify and communicate regulatory or operational issues to management.
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic to ensure each job is completed efficiently and thoroughly.
• Drive vehicles to determine roadworthiness.
• Perform additional duties as requested by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; accreditation from a technical school or applicable skilled trades program required.
• Up to one year of experience preferred.
• ASE – Medium/Heavy Truck Certification (one or more) preferred.
• Safety training and task-specific training required.
• Must own and maintain the necessary tools to perform the job efficiently.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Skills

• Ability to improve time in disassembly, inspection, determining parts required, and reassembly of repairs.
• General knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and electronic diagnostic tooling.

Schedule

Night shift.

Travel

Up to 5% travel or overnight stays may be required, including travel to other stores during times of heavy workloads.

Physical Requirements

• Significant time spent standing, with constant movement and use of hands requiring good manual dexterity.
• Frequent communication with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to react to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and visually inspect work.
• Ability to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue.
• Ability to work underneath equipment and maneuver safely.
• Lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, and balancing.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladders and equipment using both hands and feet.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination.

Work Environment

• Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
• May be exposed to weather extremes, including inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity when working outside.
• Frequently works in an enclosed vehicle or equipment.
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Exposure to high noise levels, bright or inadequate lighting, and small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
• Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
