Basic Job Functions

Affords assistance in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment, troubleshoots day-to-day manufacturing issues, and identifies and/or implements system improvements contributing to throughput, yield, and product performance goals.

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must meet one of the following criteria to qualify:
    • Associates degree in a technical discipline.
    • Two or more years of machine or mechanic experience as a primary job function.
    • One year First Solar technical experience.
    • Six months experience as Temporary Manufacturing Engineering Technician at First Solar.

  • Good written and oral communications skills in English.
  • Able to trouble shoot and solve problems on the manufacturing line.
  • Able to deal with administrative as well as technical tasks.
  • Comprehension of vacuum technology fundamentals.
  • Understanding of deposition principles.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develops a complete understanding of Deposition processes, equipment, and support systems.
  • Solves day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems.
  • Identifies and implements yield and product performance improvements.
  • Develops methods to assign causes to yield excursions.
  • Sets up and maintains gauges.
  • Ensures all processes are running on target as defined by the Process Control Plan.
  • Responds to SPC process control alarms, bringing processes back into control.
  • Executes planned process experiments, collects and analyzes data, and reports experimental results.
  • Collects data relating to daily tool performance and associated product performance.
  • Provides training to production associates.
  • Develops and updates internal documentation including drawings, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
  • Interfaces with internal associates and supplier representatives, as required, to complete assigned projects.
  • Maintains effective communication with production associates and manufacturing engineers.
  • Disposes of non-conforming product according to established criteria (NCP).
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensures waste materials are discarded in their designated containers.
  • Ensures hazardous waste containers stay closed except when adding or removing waste.
  • Ensures satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Manager- Manufacturing Engineering. This position will not have direct reports.

Travel

No travel is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a seldom basis.
  • Lifts, pushes or pulls up to 27 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Uses hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis.
  • Has 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • May wear personal protective equipment (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
  • May wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).
