About the role

The Commercial AV Project Foreman combines the advanced technical capability of a Level 3 Technician with the field leadership responsibilities of a Lead Technician. This role is responsible for leading on-site installation teams, ensuring quality execution of complex AV systems, and serving as the primary field liaison between the installation crew, Project Manager, clients, general contractors, and IT teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site installation teams across commercial AV projects from rough-in through commissioning
  • Serve as the primary field point of contact with Project Manager, clients, GCs, architects, and IT teams
  • Interpret and execute from complete project documentation: AV drawings, rack elevations, signal flow diagrams, one-line diagrams, and network schematics
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to Logic Integration quality standards
  • Identify and communicate job-site risks, issues, scope changes, and change order needs proactively to the Project Manager
  • Manage daily task sequencing, crew assignments, and material staging on-site
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites; enforce company installation standards and OSHA compliance
  • Read and redline drawings; document as-built conditions and field changes
  • Install, terminate, and test all low-voltage cabling types (Cat6/6A, fiber, coax, speaker, control, shielded audio) per AVIXA and TIA standards
  • Build, wire, dress, and label equipment racks to Logic Integration and AVIXA standards including power sequencing, UPS integration, and thermal management
  • Install and configure complete commercial AV systems including: Displays, video walls, LED walls, and projection systems (screens, lifts, rear-projection assemblies, mounts)
  • Audio systems: DSPs, amplifiers, speakers, microphone systems, automated/manual mixers, EQs, compressor/limiters, speaker processors, and outboard gear
  • Control systems (Crestron, Extron, etc.) including IR, RF, IP, CEC, and RS-232 communication protocols
  • Video conferencing and collaboration systems (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Poly)
  • Digital signage, media players, and content distribution systems
  • Lighting control, motorized shade control, and surveillance integration
  • Accessory equipment: pop-ups/cable cubbies, floor boxes, in-ceiling camera systems, and conference table integration
  • Control Systems & DSP Programming
  • Upload, download, and perform field edits to control system programs
  • Write and modify audio programs for common DSP platforms (Biamp Tesira/Audia, QSC Q-SYS, Extron)
  • Configure and tune audio systems: gain structure, EQ, routing, zone management, and speaker optimization
  • Proficiency with AV control and configuration tools: Crestron Toolbox, Biamp Tesira software, Extron Global Configurator, QSC Q-SYS Designer
  • Networking & AV-over-IP
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: OSI model (Layers 1–3), IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, and basic switching
  • Configure AV devices on managed networks and coordinate with client IT teams on port provisioning, VLAN assignments, and firewall rules
  • Experience with networked AV protocols: Dante, AES67, AVB, NDI, SDVoE
  • Configure network switches and basic port forwarding for AV system requirements
  • System Commissioning & Troubleshooting
  • Perform signal verification, audio tuning, video calibration, and system optimization
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues independently using logical, step-by-step diagnostic methodology across cabling, hardware, configuration, programming, and network layers
  • Perform final system testing, punch-list completion, and client walk-through/training
  • Ensure all systems meet performance, usability, and client expectations before sign-off
  • Team Development & Accountability
  • Train and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 Technicians on installation techniques, standards, troubleshooting, and professional conduct
  • Delegate tasks effectively across team members based on skill level and project needs
  • Ensure accurate time tracking and daily reporting for entire on-site crew
  • Hold team members accountable for quality, safety, and professionalism on-site
  • Provide feedback to Project Manager on technician performance, skill gaps, and development opportunities

  • ANSI/AVIXA A102.01:2017 – AV Installation Standard (rack building, cable management, device mounting, system commissioning)
  • ANSI/AVIXA F501.01 – Cable Labeling and Cable Pathways
  • ANSI/AVIXA V202.01:2016 – AV Display Image Size Standard
  • ANSI/AVIXA A102.02 – AV System Performance Verification
  • ANSI/TIA-568 – Structured Cabling Standards
  • ANSI/TIA-606 – Administration Standard for Telecommunications Infrastructure
  • OSHA Construction Safety Standards (fall protection, PPE, electrical safety, confined space)
  • Understanding of ADA requirements and applicable building code as they relate to AV installations

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of commercial AV installation experience
  • 2+ years in a lead, senior, or foreman-level technician role preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Level 1 and Level 2 responsibilities
  • Prowered ability to lead field teams, manage daily execution, and drive project quality

  • Strong troubleshooting and system-level diagnostic skills
  • Full understanding of audio and video signal types, routing, and system commissioning
  • Experience with control systems, DSP configuration, and networked AV
  • Professional communication skills with clients, GCs, architects, and internal teams
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • Authorized to work full-time in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Manufacturer certifications: Crestron, Biamp, Extron, QSC, Shure, Cisco, or similar
  • Experience with Dante, AES67, AVB, NDI, or SDVoE
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and Poly platforms
  • Networking certifications (CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA) a plus
  • Pro-audio experience (live sound, installed sound, mixing) a plus
