Technician II, Medical Laboratory Scientist

Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures under the technical guidance of the Laboratory Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, and Assistant Laboratory Supervisor. Responsible for workload recording, inventory control, research and development of new procedures, and training of new Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician staff.

Responsibilities

• Analytic:
  • Performs requested laboratory tests and special analysis (e.g., proficiency testing, correlation studies) according to established policies and procedures.
  • Prioritizes laboratory testing to ensure optimal efficiency and timely reporting of results.
  • Utilizes quality control procedures, documents results, and takes action for out-of-control results, recognizing trends or unexpected patterns.
  • Performs calibration, calibration verification, and linearities as needed.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment, reagents, and procedures to minimize downtime.
  • Refers complex problems to the Laboratory Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, or Assistant Laboratory Supervisor.
• Pre-analytic:
  • Receives electronic and manual test orders and obtains specimens, assisting with collections and processing as needed.
  • Ensures collection of adequate and acceptable samples for analysis.
  • Monitors and adjusts workflow as needed.
• Post-analytic:
  • Releases patient results in a timely manner and communicates with reference labs to confirm results and order supplies.
  • Exercises independent judgment in releasing, repeating, or referring test results for review.
  • Consults with leadership when necessary.
• Administrative:
  • Manages workload recording, records review and storage, and inventory control.
  • Monitors and resolves pending lists per policy.
  • Updates reagents, QC, and test kit information, including lot-to-lot parallel runs.
  • Assigns proficiency testing and responds to provider and clinical staff inquiries.
  • Supports clinical point-of-care testing and facilitates issue resolution.
  • Participates in department meetings, continuing education, and training of new employees.
  • Makes recommendations for process improvements.
  • Oversees day-to-day laboratory operations, including collections and accessioning/processing areas.
  • Monitors laboratory workflow and de-escalates issues.
  • Serves as a laboratory leadership interface with clinical staff.
  • Prepares for and participates in state/internal inspections.
  • Ensures compliance with information communicated in laboratory newsletters.

Requirements

• Minimum two (2) years of post-registration MT/MLS experience.
• Bachelor’s degree and/or MT/MLS registration or equivalent documentation from the state of Georgia.
• One of the following certifications:
  • GA Dept HR CLIA MT MLT Grnfthr
  • Scientist in Microbiology
  • Medical Technologist Certificate
  • American Medical Technologists Registered Medical Assistant Certificate
  • American Medical Technologist Medical Technologist Certificate
  • American Board of Bioanalysis Medical Technologist Certificate
  • Medical Lab Scientist Certificate
  • Medical Lab Technician Certificate
• Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
• Able to work independently, demonstrate good customer service and interpersonal skills, dependability, and critical thinking.

Preferred Qualifications

• Leadership experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related health science.

Schedule

• Workdays: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
• Shift: Night (08:00 PM – 08:00 AM)
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Job Type: Full-time, standard worker location (onsite)

Pay

Pay range: $38.42 - $49.20 per hour. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
