Responsibilities
- Creates adequate histologic sections with proper leveling between each section applied onto glass slides.
- Affixes to daily immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stain (SS) workload by receiving IHC/SS orders and pending list requests.
- Retrieves slides and/or blocks from request and performs IHC/SS by preparing, loading/unloading stainers, and performing appropriate quality control checks.
- Embeds tissue using correct orientation and positioning for sectioning.
- Performs recuts and additional stains including special and immunohistochemistry stains, as requested by a Pathologist.
- Documents instrument and equipment maintenance and learns troubleshooting on all equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Assists with filing as needed.
- Assists with training new employees and mentoring students.
Qualifications
- Histotechnician certification required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred for Histotechnologist certification.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems independently.
- Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
Pay
Commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Evening shift from 1500-1900.
