About the role

The City of Fort Collins Operations Team is hiring for a Technician II, Energy Services (HVAC) position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment for approximately 100 City buildings.
  • Plans, maintains, diagnoses, tests, installs, repairs, and replaces HVAC equipment.
  • Collaborates with other technicians, facility project managers, and contractors on major renovations and new construction projects.
  • Works with facility project managers to incorporate the most efficient systems possible and conserve energy.
  • Collaborates with other technicians including HVAC, BRM, aquatics, electrical, and controls.
  • Interprets engineering drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Adjusts temperature and monitors sensors on the City's building automation and control software.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a commercial HVAC environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EPA Certification to handle refrigerants.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification including fingerprinting/ background check.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Functionally related licenses or certificates (HVAC Certification is a preferred qualification).

Skills

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and ability to operate and maintain associated equipment.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics.
  • Ability to use service call and control systems software.
  • Ability to prepare bid specifications.
  • Ability to do general building maintenance.
  • Ability to perform basic duties related to carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal layout, and electrical work.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to do basic math.
  • May be required to do building automation software programming.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
