Technician II

About the Role

This position performs routine and some non-routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles (buses, vans, etc.) adhering to FirstGroup standards. Work is performed under minimal supervision, handling advanced issues and problems while mentoring or providing informal guidance to Technician I. In Washington, this is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing, including cannabis.

Responsibilities

• Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision, including replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, checking fluid levels, changing fluids and filters, and lubricating components.
• Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision, including brakes, brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs.
• Maintain records of all maintenance work, including parts and supplies used; ensure work orders are completed accurately.
• Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers.
• Assist with preventative maintenance (PM's), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals.
• Remove and replace engine, transmission, and differential assemblies with Maintenance Technician III supervision.
• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.
• Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actions taken.
• Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required.
• Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.
• Adhere to FirstGroup standards, policies, and procedures.
• Move vehicles safely between job and work area.
• Repair and maintain all shop equipment.
• Clean vehicles as requested or required.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred).
• Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire).
• State inspection license (if required).
• ASE Certification preferred; must participate in ASE testing program within 1 year (expected to have 3 ASE certifications within 12 months of hire).
• Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
• Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Intermediate problem-solving ability and computer skills.
• Comfortable using hand tools.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties, maintained in a clean and safe manner.
• English proficiency (required for training, safety communications, policies, and job-related documents).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Maintenance shop environment with dust, dirt, and grease conditions.
• Ability to work under all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a crouched position or on back, lying on a mechanic’s creeper beneath motor vehicle equipment.

Pay

$25.00/hour based on CBA.
