Technician I - Structured Cabling

Entry-level role for a contributing member of a technical team in the structured cabling industry. Typically requires no experience to one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Install work area outlets for floor (monument), modular furniture (surface mount box), and wall (box eliminator).
• Drop cable down walls using fish tape or other methods.
• Route cable through modular furniture.
• Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables, and determine length, slack, and label cables.
• Suspend and support cable correctly using cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze.
• Build closets: mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware.
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
• Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetrations.
• Terminate low-voltage devices.
• Complete all company paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers).
• Adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• 0 to 1 year of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Basic construction industry knowledge preferred.
• Ability to meet company minimum driving standards preferred.

Skills

• Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentations.
• Skill or ability to learn to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
• Proficiency or ability to learn to use tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade.

• Ability to work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
• Regular attendance is mandatory.
• Ability to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed.

Pay

USD $20.00–$22.00 per hour.
