About the role

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services within correctional facilities. The Technician I works as part of the clinical and administrative medical team at Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, NJ, supporting patient care and health service operations.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, height and weight and document in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Assist physicians/associate practitioners with procedures, including preparing inmates for examination.
• Obtain specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintain or assist in maintaining supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Maintain supply stock in examination rooms.
• Aggregate medication orders and forward to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.

Requirements

• Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.
• At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill and abilities.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (own vehicle or alternative means) to travel between sites.
• Approval by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adherence to all DOC requirements.

Skills

• Ability to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes as a first responder.
• Physical ability to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Pay

• Minimum salary: $21.040
• Mid‑range salary: $21.540
• Maximum salary: $22.190
• FLSA non‑exempt, Grade 137.

Schedule

• Part‑time position.
• Approximately 20 standard hours per week (evening shift).
• Full onsite work arrangement at Bayside State Prison.
