About the Role

This position performs mechanical and electrical services on engines, generators, UPS, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and other related system products for the Power System’s Service Department.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, services, and repairs generators, UPS, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and other related system products, including first-time (start-up) installations.
  • Coordinates with other systems (e.g., multiple generator sets, paralleling switchgear) to ensure all equipment works together properly as a system.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems to ensure safe and efficient system operation.
  • Completes all associated paperwork, including service reports, time tracking, parts charged/returned, serial numbers, and equipment types.
  • Maintains excellent customer communication and satisfaction by understanding needs, completing repairs safely and on time, and delivering superior workmanship.
  • Maintains company-issued vehicle, equipment, and tools, ensuring they are clean, functional, and up to date with maintenance.
  • Meets DOT requirements, operates field service vehicles (CDL license required), and operates a forklift.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent; technical background or vocational training in engine service and/or electrical generator service preferred.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical experience with generators and engines, preferably with Caterpillar, or in a role involving hydraulics, electrical, engine, and component repairs.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills, with the ability to interpret policies, procedures, and warranty administration.
  • Excellent knowledge of the product and market, with respect for Caterpillar’s influence.
  • Proficiency in operating PCs (especially laptops) and industry-specific programs.
  • Strong project management, change management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent listening, verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of safety rules, laws, and regulations related to engine service, hydraulics, electrical systems, and tooling.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet goals.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends.
  • Valid Class C CDL driver’s license or higher required.
  • Professionalism in appearance and interactions with internal and external customers.
