About the Role

Manufacturing equipment and processes require a high degree of specialized attention around the clock. The primary objective is to maximize efficiency and prevent any interruption of production by achieving control over the systems the manufacturing cycle depends on. These systems include facility, equipment, utility, and controls, maintained and continually improved by Engineer Technician I’s. The role provides technical support for industrial automation and controls systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and associated manufacturing equipment, with a focus on troubleshooting and minimizing production downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently under the guidance of a supervisor or technical lead on assignments with clear and specified objectives.
  • Complies with applicable policies and procedures, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Provides technical service, including daily monitoring and troubleshooting of assigned systems.
  • Troubleshoots industrial automation and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, instrumentation, and associated equipment.
  • Recommends improvements in design, installation, start-up, or execution of projects or tasks, as well as maintenance of programs.
  • Maintains documentation, monitoring logs, Best Operating Practices (BOPs), training manuals, etc., for regulatory compliance.
  • Assists in the implementation of long-term projects to maintain efficiency.
  • Assists operations in troubleshooting to determine potential impacts on production and facility systems.
  • Exchanges information with project team members, designers, management, and other engineering or production personnel.
  • Delivers recommendations and suggestions to project team members and management within the department.
  • Provides limited technical assistance and information to production, engineering groups, outside consultants, contractors, and various departments.
  • Participates and/or assists engineers in the design of process equipment or systems for optimal performance.
  • Assists in the start-up of new and troubleshoots existing facilities/equipment to ensure optimal operation and performance.
  • Supports the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automation and controls equipment and systems.
  • Identifies issues and implements troubleshooting techniques to avoid production downtime.
  • Closely monitors systems for potential issues and/or improvements.
  • Utilizes PLC diagnostics, HMI information, electrical drawings, and equipment documentation to identify and resolve automation-related issues.
  • Responds to requests, evaluates problems, determines causes, and communicates and implements solutions efficiently.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required; technical school completion/certification preferred.
  • At least 5 years of prior technical experience in area(s) of specialty with basic knowledge of systems described.
  • Working knowledge of PLC-based control systems, preferably Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation or Siemens platforms.
  • Basic understanding of PC hardware, Windows operating systems, and industrial network communications used in manufacturing and automation systems.
  • Ability to use PLC diagnostics, HMI information, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to identify and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Knowledge of basic regulatory requirements.
