About the role
We’re looking for a Field Technician Engineer to join our team and help connect America. The primary responsibility revolves around the construction and maintenance of plant infrastructure, design, and engineering. The Field Technician Engineer provides route analysis of outside plant telecommunications and serves as the primary designer of the entire network, forming the backbone of telecom and service provider companies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage field engineering activities responsible for planning, designing, and obtaining permits for new cable routes.
- Visit customer sites to gather OSP site survey information, evaluate customer requirements, and determine the OSP equipment required.
- Work as part of a multi-faceted team consisting of engineering, construction, project management, and scheduling personnel to deliver results to the customer.
- Coordinate with drafting and/or GIS personnel in remote offices to produce construction drawings for network construction.
- Develop base mapping and provide field engineering services to prepare permit drawings, OSP construction drawings, and final as-built drawings in electronic format.
- Research and incorporate permitting requirements from jurisdictional authorities (e.g., state, county, city, railroads) into the OSP design.
- Recommend final routes based on the most economical solution and permitting agency’s requirements.
- Research and evaluate various route options, including aerial and underground options, existing customer conduit, and third-party conduit.
- Engage daily with the customer’s engineering team and project management staff via emails, phone, and occasional in-person meetings.
- Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to regulations and policies.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Authorization to work in the United States for this company.
- Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
- Must be able to attend and pass all company-required training as needed.
- May be required to work after hours, on weekends, or be on-call as work is needed.
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
- High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of experience in the OSP Engineering field.
- Experience with aerial and underground construction methods and engineering requirements.
- Experience with cable placement and splicing methods and practices.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours, including overtime and weekends as needed.
- Reliable transportation and a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with permitting requirements for state and local agencies (preferred).
- Working understanding of the RUS (Rural Utility Service) units and their meaning process (preferred).
Physical & Safety Requirements
- Duties require standing, crouching, sitting, bending, and using hands and fingers to handle or feel, as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low.
- Noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
- Frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds in a shift.
- Exposure to adverse and various weather conditions, including extreme hot or cold temperatures, icy or wet roads, rain, snow, or sleet.
- Work in urban or rural settings with changes in terrain.
- Potential exposure to toxic chemicals or corrosive materials.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- This position is safety-sensitive.

Pay
The Technician Engineer Field position pays an hourly wage of $20.00 - $30.00, depending on experience.
