About the Role

The Engineering Technician supports the Engineering department and production by creating and maintaining product specifications, bills of material, product change notifications, and deviations. This role is responsible for developing and resolving technical problems in production, engineering, facilities, and maintenance as they pertain to operational issues. The position assists and supports the operation of all equipment and processes within the facility, including facilities equipment, production equipment, and engineering development, installation, and repair of all equipment for production, facilities, and maintenance of the plant. The goal is to ensure equipment and processes are safely and efficiently operating to allow for high-quality and on-time delivery of manufactured products.

Responsibilities

  • Support production to resolve equipment, process, and technical issues to maintain optimal operations.
  • Provide daily support for repairs, installations, and regular ongoing maintenance/operational excellence in the assigned area.
  • Offer diagnostic leadership and floor support for production issues.
  • Develop methods for the prevention, control, or remediation of equipment issues and safety hazards.
  • Write and maintain engineering specifications, bills of material, product and engineering change notifications, and deviations through coordination with other engineering staff.
  • Create or update engineering electronic drawing files and engineering specifications using CAD software.
  • Work with Engineers to set up and/or perform tests, build prototypes, and collect variable data.
  • Prepare samples and coordinate testing with regulatory agencies.
  • Gather data and maintain information for issues creating downtime; prioritize actions for irreversible corrective actions.
  • Set up production equipment, changeovers, and improve equipment uptimes to model changeovers.
  • Document PM plans and execution; maintain effectiveness and critical evaluation of PM plans.
  • Develop creative and cost-focused solutions to engineering tasks to reduce costs and improve processes.
  • Document process changes and improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date equipment documentation.
  • Support the development of new processes, equipment, and procedures to improve cycle time, quality, and assembly performance.
  • Support the design, fabrication, and maintenance of assembly tooling, fixtures, and hardware for the production area.
  • Define critical spare parts based on production experiences vs. existing key spare parts identified (quarterly).
  • Inspect equipment and processes for flaws; identify areas of improvement and future product enhancements.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance examinations, fixes, cleans, and align diverse systems to ensure proper operations.
  • Design system improvements based on continuous improvements from observed issues; document changes with CAD/prints and schematics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in production support, maintenance (electrical, mechanical technician, or controls focus).
  • High School Diploma or GED; vocational training/degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.

Skills

  • Understanding and knowledge of manufacturing engineering theory, processes, and practice.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience in assembly, fabrication, or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, pneumatic and automated, and electrical control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and work instructions.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD).
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; MS Project is preferred.
  • Project management skills.
  • Attention to detail, analytical ability, troubleshooting, and resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional relationship skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize.
  • Strong team player, results-oriented, dedication to excellence, and a sense of urgency to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to apply good judgment and strong work ethics and integrity on the job.
  • Strong knowledge and discipline to maintain a safe work environment, with a focus on safety as a critical element in all aspects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle flexible and demanding schedules.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are preferred.
  • HVAC knowledge is preferred.

Nature and Scope

Works under the general supervision of the Engineering/Area Supervisor. Serves as a resource to others in resolving complex problems and issues. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. Takes on duties and tasks that have substantial variety and complexity.
