Technician, Central Sterile Processing II Certified

An advanced position under indirect supervision performing cleaning, decontamination, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, biological monitoring, quality assurance, and distribution of reusable instrument trays, medical supplies, and equipment across medical centers, ambulatory surgery centers, and outpatient clinics. This role independently handles the full scope of central sterile processing functions, with a focus on rapid and accurate response to critical situations in the OR and other medical units.

Responsibilities

• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, and track reusable instrumentation.
• Observe decontamination policies and procedures; utilize personal protective equipment where appropriate.
• Disassemble, clean, identify, and separate varied and complex OR instrumentation.
• Review, assemble, and package instrumentation singles/trays for sterilization.
• Sterilize items according to product requirements, including compliance with ETO, Sterrad, and Steam regulatory and safety standards.
• Monitor parameters on all sterilization equipment.
• Identify, reassemble, and stage varied and complex OR instrument trays.
• Collect and/or receive unused reusable instruments and equipment from medical centers and outpatient clinics for decontamination and processing.
• Stock OR case carts, perform instrument turnovers in the OR when called, and distribute medical supplies as needed.
• Respond to emergency OR calls as requested.
• Maintain working knowledge of surgical procedures to accurately provide appropriate instrumentation and service.
• Perform quality assurance, documentation, and quality control activities on all instrumentation, equipment, and biological testing according to CSP policies.
• Perform darts and biologicals in the OR daily.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service in a healthcare environment.
• Apply knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
• Assist in developing changes in the work environment and related assignments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification OR Registered Central Service Technician Certificate.
• Able to work with indirect supervision or independently for the full scope of designated competency levels in CSP.
• Able to assist other staff in daily work and training cycles.
• Full knowledge of work environment and potential critical situations; appropriate sense of urgency and timely response.
• Demonstrated effective English communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated conflict/problem resolution skills and effective time management.
• Able to stoop, bend, push, pull repetitively for the full duration of shift.
• Able to lift sixty-five (65) pounds and carry a distance of one hundred (100) feet or less for the full duration of shift.
• Able to push or pull a cart weighing up to three hundred fifty (350) pounds.

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Shift: Night (08:00 PM – 04:30 AM).
• Workdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
• Worker location: Onsite.

Pay

$29.67 - $34.63 per hour. Kaiser Permanente offers a market-competitive total rewards package, with pay equity and transparency.
