Technician

About the role

This intermediate or journey-level position involves troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, installing, and repairing equipment within an assigned area. The role provides operational, technical, electrical, and mechanical support for all facility assets, primarily related to the transportation of crude oil, refined products, and other liquids associated with the refining process. The incumbent can perform duties independently or with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for assigned location(s), ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, System Integrity Plan (SIP), and Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements.
• Attend and actively participate in required safety training meetings.
• Perform routine testing, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and systems, including but not limited to:
  • Pumps and electric motors
  • Electrical equipment and electronic/pneumatic instrumentation
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Measurement systems and product testing & analysis
  • Piping systems, valves, and centrifugal/positive displacement pumps
  • Positive displacement meters and turbine meters
• Complete and maintain required documentation and records for performed maintenance and repairs.
• Manage location projects, including major overhauls, troubleshooting for pumps and mechanical seals, new installations, or modifications of existing equipment.
• Perform other functions as requested by a supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Experience with tools and equipment applicable to the position, including:
  • Manual and power tools
  • Electronic testing devices and control devices
• Experience and training related to:
  • Computers and related software
  • Governmental rules, regulations, and electrical codes
  • Company policies and procedures, including safe handling practices for flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems
  • Reliability-based programs
• Experience reading and interpreting repair orders, mechanical drawings, procedures, charts, diagrams, dials, gauges, and equipment manuals.
• Experience preparing, processing, or verifying maintenance and repair records, safety and environmental reports, electrical schematics, pressure readings, and material/supply orders.

Skills

• Knowledge of reciprocating or gas turbine engines, compressors, and electronic/processing equipment.
• Knowledge of instrumentation, electronics, tools, and control systems.
• Ability to apply basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and algebraic formulas.
• Ability to communicate and exchange written and verbal information and instructions.

Physical Demands

• Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly.
• Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, near/far vision, depth perception, and color vision.
• Constant handling, fingering, feeling, and use of CRT/computer monitors.
• Occasional sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Frequent exposure to:
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Wet or humid conditions (non-weather related)
  • Extreme cold and heat (non-weather related)
  • Dust, fumes, gases, and moving mechanical parts
  • Potential electric shock and prolonged exposure to vibration
  • High-pitched or loud noises
  • Unprotected heights
• Frequent repetitive motion.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, dayshift, with some overtime and callout required.

Pay

Expected salary range: $78,000.00 - $116,000.00.

Travel

Travel expected within an assigned area and as required to other locations. A company vehicle may be assigned, requiring the applicable driver’s license.
