Your Impact
The Newmont Legacy Group manages closure/reclamation and care/maintenance at numerous mine projects globally, aiming for complete release of regulatory and financial liabilities in compliance with Federal, State/Provincial & local regulatory authorizations and Newmont Global Standards/Guidance/SOPs.
Assist Completion of Site Compliance Inspections, Monitoring and Audits
- Avoid non-compliance with established protocols.
- Collect water samples in accordance with permit requirements.
- Maintain records to document site compliance and assist preparation of regulatory agency submittals.
- Support Legacy Sr. Supervisor with site water treatment system operations.
- Engage with environmental regulators, government agencies and other stakeholders on environmental topics within the NV Legacy Portfolio.
Prerequisites for Your Success
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology or related field is desired, but not required.
- Minimum 4 years' experience, mining or extraction experience preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in surface & groundwater compliance sampling protocols.
- Demonstrated proficiency in operation of active and or passive water treatment systems is desired.
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer and data management skills. Familiar with applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and other data visualization software.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Provides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical based on knowledge of existing precedents or procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to independently achieve deadlines and manage priorities.
- A focus on continuous improvement with strong ability to stay organized and prioritize. Understands and identifies opportunities in areas of environmental/health/safety procedures, techniques and regulatory requirements.
- Basic understanding of Industry workplace health management approaches, safety/fatality risk assessment methods and implementation/ verification of critical controls.
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and others.
Work Environment
- Position is based out of the Elko, NV office with flexibility in residence location.
- About 75% of time will be spent in the field with potential exposure to harsh winter/summer weather extremes, chemical, mine wastes and wildlife.
- Travel is required to visit and assist domestic Legacy sites. Must be available to travel as necessary and able to fly as a passenger in helicopters and small aircraft.
