About the role

The Electronics or Electromechanical Technician supports the operations, maintenance, and upgrades of three Lincoln Space Surveillance Center (LSSC) space surveillance radar systems. The role involves participating in all aspects of high voltage (40kV and above) RF transmitter construction, operations, and maintenance. Duties include electronic component and subsystem level assembly and troubleshooting, monitoring daily operations, and performing maintenance on the transmitter systems.

Responsibilities

  • Electronic component and subsystem level assembly and troubleshooting
  • Maintain and monitor daily operations of the transmitter systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on transmitter systems and related components
  • Operate highly technical experimental apparatus
  • Support integration activities, including system-level testing and troubleshooting
  • Assist in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific personnel
  • May be required to cover earlier shifts or work off-hours, including taking phone calls and text messages at home

Requirements

  • Experience in maintaining high-voltage equipment and vacuum tube-based equipment
  • Graduation from a two-year day technical school or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of applicable experience, or equivalent technical training in electronics
  • Skills in soldering, mechanical fabrication, and assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics
  • Basic troubleshooting experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
  • Knowledge of high voltage electronics and unique safety issues working with high voltage systems
  • Flexibility to support first shift work on an as-needed basis
  • U.S. citizenship and active DoD security clearance
  • Pass a tower climbing physical test and willingness to climb towers

Preferred candidates

  • Flexibility to support first shift work on an as-needed basis
  • Available to work standard evening shifts
