Duties & Responsibilities
- Learn and apply Itron’s documentation tools, standards, and processes to create and maintain a wide range of customer-facing content, including administrator guides, installation manuals, developer documentation, integration and implementation guides, release notes, product bulletins, online help systems, and user interface text.
- Produce customer-centric documentation that enables utilities to successfully deploy, operate, and maintain Itron’s technology solutions, demonstrating a strong commitment to clarity, usability, and accessibility.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including engineering, product management, support, and quality assurance—to gather requirements, validate technical accuracy, and ensure documentation aligns with product capabilities and customer needs.
- Research and track product requirements, technical specifications, defects, and enhancements; proactively synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and actionable documentation.
- Actively learn and use the products you document to ensure content reflects real-world application, helping drive high-quality, authentic deliverables.
- Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, aligning deliverables with software, firmware, and hardware release cycles while meeting deadlines and maintaining accountability.
- Follow established style guidelines, voice standards, and best practices to ensure consistency across all documentation deliverables.
- Create and maintain visual assets such as screenshots, diagrams, and workflows that enhance understanding and improve the user experience.
- Prepare and structure documentation for localization, ensuring global accessibility for diverse customer bases.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve documentation processes, tools, and content, contributing innovative ideas that enhance team efficiency and product adoption.
- Participate in agile workflows, including sprint planning and reviews, ensuring documentation remains aligned with evolving product development.
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience creating technical or procedural documentation, with writing samples that reflect clarity, structure, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on inclusive, accessible, and customer-focused language.
- Proven ability to learn complex technologies quickly and translate technical concepts into user-friendly documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- A collaborative, accountable, and agile mindset, with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering value to customers.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Understanding of networking technologies and their application in large-scale systems.
- Experience using technical documentation tools such as MadCap Flare or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with the utilities and energy industry, including electrical systems or smart infrastructure technologies.
- Basic knowledge of Linux or UNIX environments.
- Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or SQL, enabling deeper technical insight into product functionality.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute innovative ideas that improve documentation quality, usability, and team processes.
Pay & Benefits
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience and may vary by location.
