About the role

The Technical Writer will support programs for the U.S. Navy and Department of Defense (DoD) in Panama City, Florida. Key responsibilities include creating, editing, and maintaining clear and accurate technical documentation to support engineering, operations, and program management teams.

Responsibilities

  • Create and edit technical documentation for engineering, operations, and program management teams.
  • Study product samples and talk with product designers and developers to understand user needs and make products easier to use.
  • Organize and write supporting documents for products, including using photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts to enhance understanding.
  • Select appropriate mediums for messages or audiences, such as manuals or online videos.
  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers and revise documents as needed.
  • Review materials for clarity, punctuation, grammar, and standardized content, working closely with researchers and developers.
  • Develop Technical Manuals (TM), Training, and Allowance Parts Lists (APL) for government-sponsored systems.
  • Perform informational research and gather vendor spec sheets for Engineering Data for Provisioning (EDFP).
  • Participate in Maintenance Demonstrations and procedure validations of designed equipment.
  • Provide Technical Writing in support of Life Cycle Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) products.
  • Conduct Level of Repair (LOR) Analysis for newly designed systems.
  • Develop Program Plans such as Life Cycle Sustainment Plan (LCSP) or Maintenance Plan (MP).
  • Graphically illustrate maintainability and supportability products using Adobe suite programs.
  • Develop Program Plans such as Life Cycle Sustainment Plan (LCSP) or Maintenance Plan (MP).
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Access and/or Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in technical documentation writing and editing.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality documentation paying attention to detail.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and excellent follow-through skills are required.
  • Undergraduates' degree in journalism, communications, business, logistics, English, applied science, mathematics, engineering or other fields preferred.
  • Experience in reading engineering drawings and/or working with engineering teams.
  • Experience developing procedures and/or other forms of technical documentation such as Technical Manuals, Bills of Materials (BOM's), Associated Parts Lists (APL's), Identifying Support and Test Equipment (S&TE), and detailing PHS&T requirements, etc.
  • Experience or willingness to learn DoD Logistics search engine tools for provisioning (i.e., PUB LOG).
  • Experience relating to Training development.
  • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) NAVSEA Level II Certification and use of MIL-STD-1334 to develop Condition Based Maintenance (CBM).
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Access and/or Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
