About the role
The Technical Trainer at Winchester Interconnect serves as the technical training authority for cable and wire harness assembly operations. This role requires hands-on experience, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to translate complex technical standards into effective training.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver comprehensive training programs covering cable assembly processes, IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards, J-STD-001 soldered connections, and Space Addendum certification criteria.
- Bridge the gap between engineering specifications and production floor execution, ensuring adherence to company and customer quality standards.
- Leverage adult learning principles and data-driven performance tracking to foster a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
- Provide training support across both 1st and 2nd shifts, working closely with Quality, Safety, Engineering, and Production departments to set the standard for excellence.
- Deliver technical training courses in various formats including instructor-led, facilitated group learning, active hands-on workshops, and functional assessments.
- Prepare and administer IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) training modules, J-STD-001 soldered connections requirements, and Space Addendum certification content.
- Track and maintain accurate records of each student's completed and required training, including certifications, examination scores, and recertification timelines.
- Perform in-process inspections on the production floor to identify workmanship deficiencies and provide real-time corrective coaching and instruction.
- Develop training campaigns to optimize productivity, reduce scrap and rework, and promote employee retention through continuous development.
- Partner with Quality, Safety, Human Resources, Engineering, and Production departments to identify training gaps, address skill deficiencies, and set the standard for excellence across the organization.
- Leverage data and performance metrics to make informed decisions about training priorities, content updates, and program effectiveness.
- Maintain an innovative, flexible, and positive teaching style combined with an understanding of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
- Support the Company’s mission, vision, values, and goals in performance of daily activities.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in cable and wire harness assembly manufacturing.
- Current IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification (Certified IPC Trainer preferred); J-STD-001 certification required. Space Addendum certification is a strong plus.
- In-depth knowledge of cable types, connectors, termination methods, crimp processes, soldering techniques, and assembly procedures.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, assembly instructions, technical diagrams, and specifications (Technical Data Packages).
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve assembly defects and workmanship issues per IPC acceptance criteria (Class 1, 2, and 3).
- Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, hand tools, and test instruments used in cable assembly operations.
- Experience delivering training in multiple formats: instructor-led classroom, facilitated group learning, active hands-on workshops, and functional assessments.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar aerospace/defense quality management systems is highly preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and motivationally.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) for tracking training records and certifications.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong plus.
- Must be available to work across 1st and 2nd shifts as required by production training schedules.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, education, or related field is preferred.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 per year plus 5% AIP. Exact salary will be contingent upon your experience, education, skills, and any other factors Winchester Interconnect Corporation considers relevant to the hiring decision.
