About The Role

The IT Systems Engineer II is a role designed for professionals with a solid background in IT systems and a passion for maintaining and optimizing IT infrastructure. This position is responsible for managing and troubleshooting IT systems to ensure their reliability and efficiency. The role involves installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems and software applications, managing network configurations, and implementing virtualization technologies. Additionally, the IT Systems Engineer II will develop automation scripts, design backup and recovery procedures, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems and software applications while managing and troubleshooting network configurations and protocols to ensure seamless connectivity.
  • Implement and manage virtualization technologies to optimize resource utilization and develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline IT processes and improve efficiency.
  • Design and implement backup and recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity.
  • Perform routine system administration tasks, including user account management, system monitoring, and resource allocation.
  • Utilize basic system administration tools to manage shared resources such as file systems and printers.
  • Distinguish between system processes/services and user processes, managing authentication and authorization processes.
  • Administer local and network resources to ensure proper resource sharing and access control.
  • Leverage Windows administrative tools to manage system configurations and Active Directory.
  • Administer networked and distributed computing environments, including routing and remote access services, and modify deployed group policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support IT projects and initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve your skills and knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree).
  • Typically 2+ years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in operating systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and configurations.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages for automation.
  • Understanding of backup and recovery procedures.
  • Familiarity with most basic system administration tools and processes; for example, ability to boot/shut down a machine, add and remove user accounts, use backup programs, manage shared resources (e.g., file systems, printers), and add a workstation to a network.
  • Understanding distinctions between system processes/services and user processes, the authentication/authorization processes in use at the site, local and network resources and resource sharing, basic networking concepts and practices.
  • For Windows administrators, familiarity with the basic Windows administrative tools and how to locate them (e.g., Computer Management tool, lowest-level Active Directory tools).
  • Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts; for example, ability to use the route command, administer routing and remote access service, and modify deployed group policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. TS/SCI clearance strongly preferred.
  • Advanced certifications in relevant IT fields (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Proficiency in advanced scripting and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Compensation

Pay Range: $87,156.00 - $119,839.50. Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
