Technical Support Staff (levels I and/or II)

About the role

The Public Works, Stormwater Maintenance Division seeks 5 experienced Technical Support Staff (levels I and/or II) to provide construction inspection related services in support of Public Works administered road, bridge, flood control, sewer, water, traffic signal, or other permitted projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction inspection, oversight, enforcement of compliance with the contract documents for construction of various projects.
• Monitor permitted activities for safety compliance.
• Respond to inquiries from Public Works Stormwater Maintenance Division staff and other affected Department Divisions.
• Coincordinate communications between all interested and affected parties, maintain accurate records of work done, and perform other associated contract administration tasks.
• Recommend & prepare back-up documentation to or process change orders.
• Prepare daily logs, BMP reports, photographic reports and working day statements; collect work records; maintain accurate records of work done for payment purposes; and perform other associated contract administration tasks.
• Maintain effective working relationships with Department staff, contractors, and the public.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 years (TSS1) of construction inspection experience inspecting horizontal infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with, and a working knowledge of the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook) and the Standard Plans for Public Works Construction, and experience in their use.
• Working knowledge of the Cal/OSHA Construction Safety Orders.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, special provisions and other contract documents.
• Ability to independently identify potential problems and propose solutions.
• Ability to enforce temporary traffic controls per approved traffic control plans, lane requirements or California MUTCD, Chapter 6.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and oversight.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

• Technical Support Staff I: Salary range: $70.72 per hour - $70,000.00 - $74.000.00
• Technical Support Staff II: Salary range: $75.32 per hour - $74,000.00 - $79,000.00
