About the role

The Support Engineer is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, organizational abilities, and exceptional communication skills. This position leverages solid experience in electrical systems and controls to provide support to clients across North America, Mexico, and Central America. The Engineer coordinates and delivers hotline support services for both new and legacy customers, collaborating closely with European hotline teams to ensure seamless global service. The role offers significant career growth opportunities and involves cross-disciplinary collaboration with mechanical and electrical engineering, software development, project management, and customer support. Ongoing training and on-site visits are expected, with frequent travel primarily within North America and occasional extended international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand electrical and control aspects of installed systems.
  • Access and troubleshoot electro-mechanical components and systems, including PLC and PC communications.
  • Understand system applications and translate them into operational and functional requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with customers, providing technical expertise to guide issue resolution.
  • Investigate root cause analysis or develop corrective actions to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate problem resolution with engineering, customer support, and other personnel.
  • Interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other documentation.
  • Instruct and direct workers in servicing and repairing equipment.
  • Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
  • Supervise testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to achieve optimum performance.
  • Understand electrical drawings and specifications related to machine control programming.
  • Develop and implement strategies and standards for training, skills matrices, response, and reporting.
  • Utilize best practices with European hotline and technical groups.
  • Follow the stage gate process for hotline and new systems.
  • Use Service Now best practices as defined by the Technical Team Leader.
  • May be assigned to special projects or perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure with a sense of urgency and thoroughness.
  • Professional, positive, and energetic attitude.
  • Self-motivated, trustworthy, and respectful of others.

Skills

  • Strong PC skills (Windows, Word, Excel, remote capabilities).
  • Strong understanding of industrial power, electrical and control circuits, and devices.
  • Good understanding of networks and networking.
  • Demonstrated capability in PLC programming, with a focus on SCO Unix, Linux, Siemens, and Allen Bradley systems.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, diagrams, and other documentation.
  • Understanding of C++ and Siemens S7 (preferred).
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently in a remote setting.
  • Proficiency in using computer-based tools for communication, troubleshooting, and programming.
  • Ability to quickly acquire programming skills for machine control platforms.

Desired Experience

  • Expertise in sortation systems (e.g., Crisplant Legacy systems).
  • Electrical and control troubleshooting.
  • PLC and PC-based programming.

Pay

$38.00 - $45.00 hourly.
