About the company

Blacksmith builds infrastructure to run CI workloads at scale. Our first product accelerates GitHub Actions by operating a global fleet of bare-metal machines, avoiding generic cloud VMs. Today we orchestrate tens of millions of Firecracker VMs weekly for 5,000+ companies, reaching ~$50M ARR in 2.5 years and 5x’ing revenue since the start of 2026. We run thousands of bare-metal servers across multiple regions, schedule 100k+ concurrent vCPUs, and manage a petabyte-scale Ceph cluster in-house. Backed by $58.5M from Seed to Series B (led by GV and Peak XV), we’re a small, exceptional team founded by engineers with deep systems experience from Faire, Cockroach Labs, and elsewhere. Our GTM is led by Jon Boyer, former Head of Sales at Zapier. We’re now expanding our CI infrastructure into a broader platform: running agent sandboxes at scale and building our own background coding agent.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run the content engine: create the machinery and cadence that turns engineering launches into a steady stream of high-quality technical content.
  • Design the launch playbook: craft narratives for 0-to-1 products and features—announcements, docs-adjacent explainers, demos—working closely with the Product team to reduce overhead with each launch.
  • Turn customers into stories: identify engineering teams who’ve cut CI times by an order of magnitude, interview them, and write compelling content that resonates with other engineers.
  • Set the bar for technical content in this category: produce deep dives, benchmarks, teardowns, comparisons, and the occasional argumentative essay—content that earns a front-page spot on Hacker News.
  • Extend content beyond the blog: adapt stories for video, YouTube, docs, changelog, conference talks, and the company account, using whatever format best serves the narrative.

Requirements

  • 5+ years writing for a technical audience in developer media, technical content marketing, DevRel, or engineering-adjacent journalism.
  • Published work that traveled: pieces that hit the front page of Hacker News, threads that got quoted, posts engineers share, or an audience you built yourself. (Links will be requested.)
  • Deep enough understanding of technical concepts to present them credibly—no engineering degree required, but genuine curiosity about what we’re building and the wider market.
  • Ability to extract stories from engineers who don’t see themselves as storytellers: read a design doc or pull request, develop a thesis, and ask the right questions to build a content piece.
  • Writing with a point of view: preference for arguable, bold content over safe, generic material.
  • Very online: attuned to Hacker News, X, and developer social chatter, with instincts for what will resonate and what won’t.
  • Work with autonomy: no manager, no brief, no existing calendar—you decide what’s worth writing.

Benefits

  • Medical, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Competitive base salary + equity.
  • 401k match.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Annual offsite.
  • Early-exercise stock options.
  • 12 weeks fully paid parental leave (US).
