Technical Specialist – Technologies Department
Job Summary
This is a full-time position in the department of Technology reporting to the Department Chair of Technologies. The Technical Training Specialist provides laboratory support and training for students in the Technologies Department.
Job Duties
- Directly support program faculty in laboratory instruction.
- Set up laboratory equipment such as hydraulic/pneumatic, mechanical systems, motor control, electrical, PLCs, conveyors, instrumentation, and robotics; designs and supervises the setup of laboratory equipment.
- Aids Instructors in assessing students' ability to perform needed skills to satisfy course requirements.
- Prepares equipment for labs; evaluates situations and makes decisions on class/lab processes to be incorporated into classes.
- Develops and follows a preventive maintenance program and repairs mechanical equipment.
- Manages and maintains a wide range of test/repair equipment, including (but not limited to): Industrial test equipment such as Digital multimeters, Analog/digital oscilloscopes, Thermal detection equipment, Vibration Analysis, and Laser Alignment. Hand Tools, Power Tools, Dial gauges, Laboratory trainers.
- Manages and maintains computer hardware and software, including imaging/re-imaging laboratory workstations.
- Maintains inventory of laboratory consumables.
- Collaborates with the Department Chair to acquire hardware, software, and lab consumables in compliance with the department and college criteria.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Functions
- The Specialist may optionally instruct up to two courses per semester as an adjunct (subject to teaching credential).
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in any of the following: Industrial Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronic Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or a closely related field, and demonstrated competencies or experience in the field.
- Experience with purchasing and managing inventory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree or higher in any of the following: Industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronic Technology, or a closely related engineering, technology, or similar field.
- 1+ years of experience in a higher education setting OR 2+ years of experience in supervision or technical training.
- 1+ years of experience in supervision or training.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods while assisting in the lab.
