Technical Services Engineer - Weekend Shift

MongoDB Technical Services Engineers use their exceptional problem solving and customer service skills, along with their deep technical experience, to advise customers and solve their complex MongoDB problems. Our engineers combine MongoDB expertise with passion, initiative, teamwork, and a great sense of humor to achieve exceptional results for our customers. We are looking to speak with candidates based on the east coast for this remote role.

Schedule

Weekend schedule during the 6-9 month ramp period: Monday - Friday 7 AM - 4 PM EST

Weekend schedule post-ramp: Saturday - Wednesday 7 AM - 4 PM EST

This schedule includes a mandatory 1-hour lunch break to ensure hand-over to 2nd shift from 3 - 4 PM. There will be a 20% uplift on your base salary for this weekend shift, and there are no on-call requirements for your off days.

The FedRAMP program requires that anyone accessing customer data or metadata inside the Authorization Boundary be a US Citizen on US soil. The FedRamp team operates in three shifts (first, second, and third) to ensure 24/7 coverage. Certain events may require volunteering for coverage outside normal work days or hours, typically announced weeks in advance.

Responsibilities

• Solve complex customer issues related to MongoDB architecture, performance, recovery, security, and more.
• Serve as an expert resource on standard methodologies for running MongoDB at scale.
• Advocate for customers' needs by working with product management and development teams.
• Contribute to internal projects, including software development of support tools for performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics.
• Mentor and ramp new team members, and build knowledge of new product lines within the MongoDB ecosystem.

Requirements

• Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
• Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.).
• Storage engineering experience, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching.
• Experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems.
• Ability to read code and basic coding/scripting in one or more languages: Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Node.js, Go, etc.
• Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
• Experience analyzing issues holistically, from the application tier through the database, down to storage.
• Genuine desire to help people and ability to think on your feet under pressure.
• Desire and ability to rapidly learn new technical skills.
• Collaboration: willingness and ability to seek help from team members when required.
• Be a US Citizen.

Bonus Points

• Experience managing large-scale databases (e.g., RDBMS, NoSQL).
• Experience with authentication systems such as LDAP, Kerberos, AD.
• Experience using or managing MongoDB.
• Experience using distributed version control systems, particularly Git.
• Experience with cloud services stacks such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration systems using vendor-specific Enterprise operators.

Success Measures

• In 3 months: Gain a deep understanding of MongoDB and its ecosystem. Complete New Hire Training.
• In 6 months: Be comfortable working frontline with customers. Complete the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate exam.
• In 12 months: Become a technical specialist within MongoDB, helping peers with advanced diagnostics and handling technical escalations independently.

Pay

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is: $90,000—$176,000 USD.
