Technical Service Director
About the role
Franklin International, a leading manufacturer of adhesives, coatings, and sealants, is seeking a Technical Service Director. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and organizing the Construction Division Technical Services Department operations and activities within budgetary constraints, consistent with our Values, Vision and Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities
- Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction through management of the tech service processes.
- Aids in the management and setup of administrative systems in technical service.
- Ensures ongoing support of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in production with respect to possible technical input requirements from the lab and/or sales and marketing.
- Aids and advises the CPD lab and technical service department on proper process, documentation, and chemical specification agreements.
- Ensures the utilization of scientific practices and the development of testing methodologies that enhance accuracy and efficiency of laboratory performance.
- Responsible for the standardized development of testing policies and procedures for Construction products and markets.
- Affirms needs through customer visits, market information, and Franklin goals to decide technical service projects.
- Preserved Franklin’s long-term sustainability through appropriate planning.
- Sets up budgets and develops short and long-term department objectives.
- Participates in execution of long and short-term strategic plans/goals for the Construction Tech Services Group.
- Develops and implements programs which are consistent with and supportive of Franklin’s Management Philosophy.
- Proactively leads decision maker/problem solving activities.
- Positively represents department and Franklin by serving as a liaison.
- Encourages cooperation and creates a team spirit within the Construction Technical Services team.
- Works as a facilitator between Purchasing, R&D, Production, Distribution and QC with respect to supporting the needs and responsibilities of tech service.
- Ensures accurate and appropriate flow of information by providing clear information to management and subordinates.
- Responsible for upward and downward communications on a regular basis to ensure smooth department operations.
- Communicates specific department objectives, their progress and completion.
- Improves working communication between production, CPD lab, customer service and sales & marketing with respect to procedures, raw material and product changes.
- Creates a skilled and motivated staff by ensuring that employees receive development and support consistent with their responsibilities.
- Responsible for ongoing performance communication with each employee.
- Recommends personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary action.
- Interprets work rules.
- Responsible for first step in employee counseling, documenting these decisions for personnel records.
- Counsels and mentors department employees using strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Responsible for safety, security, first aid and housekeeping within the work areas.
- Coordinates phone schedule for Construction Technical Service on a regular basis.
- Collects and tracks all pertinent performance statistics for tech service department personnel.
- Observes all safety and environmental guidelines while handling products, raw materials and wastes.
Requirements
Required qualifications include:
- AS with 12 years technical experience, or BS with 6 years experience, or MS with 3 years experience;
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience.
