About the role
The Security Engineer role at Everforth Apex involves delivering tailored technical solutions that accelerate digital transformation across regulated market segments. This role requires technical expertise in cloud security and infrastructure, combined with an understanding of public sector security compliance frameworks. You will act as the go-to technical expert for security problems, driving security outcomes and independently owning projects from design to launch.
Responsibilities
- Disambiguate, break down, and drive solutions to security problems, navigating cross-functional challenges with minimal oversight.
- Manage and deliver engineering projects, ensuring productive engagement with stakeholders and adherence to project scope, timelines, and metrics.
- Design and deliver scalable security solutions and custom assets, such as production code and best practices, that reduce risks and satisfy complex customer objectives.
- Define and drive long-term security strategies, multi-year roadmaps, and visions for complex technical problems.
- Evaluate complex security risks, contribute to policy definitions, and lead the full solution lifecycle from development to launch.
- Lead technical product deployment and engage with customers on the configuration, customization, and integration of product entitlements.
- Provide hands-on technical assistance with configuration activities and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with internal teams and the customer to develop onboarding plans that outline tasks, timelines, and resources.
- Deliver product-focused and operational training and share best practices.
Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
- Experience: This position requires 5+ years of experience with large-scale system architecture, distributed paradigms, and global infrastructure deployment (e.g., operating system administration, software-defined network configuration, identity and access management, Kubernetes).
- Experience: 2+ years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols, along with 5+ years of coding experience in one or more general-purpose languages.
- Clearance: Candidates must have the ability to obtain and/or maintain an active Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance (TS/SCI).
- Travel: The ability to travel up to 25% domestically is required.
Qualifications
- Experience in security assessments, security design reviews, or threat modeling.
- Proven ability to secure products on major cloud platforms using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience delivering security solutions through design, coding, configuration, and deployment.
- A deep understanding of open-source and enterprise security technologies, tools, infrastructure, and processes.
- Demonstrated experience with automated deployment models, such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) and GitOps.
- Knowledge of key security areas (e.g., threat modeling, incident response) and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, ITSG-33, C5, ISM, ISO).

Pay
The anticipated pay range for this position is $80.00/hr to $150.00/hr. Please note that the final pay rate will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and the specific requirements of the role.
