Technical Sales Engineer

About the role

The Technical Sales Engineer is a key driver of growth and innovation within our steel melting operations. In this role, you’ll combine your technical expertise with hands-on industry insight to help customers across a wide range of industries solve complex operational challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews inquiries, establishes pricing, and develops steel ingot or billet process plan
  • Manages the sales for Ellwood Quality Steels (EQS) and Ellwood North Steel (ENS), and supports the sales of other Ellwood business units, as applicable and necessary
  • Maintains an up-to-date understanding of applicable steelmaking and downstream processes
  • Manages credit decisions in conjunction with Finance on customers
  • Assists sales staff in technical inquiries, order planning, scheduling, and product disposition
  • Captures and tracks profitability of products and orders, as well as manages customer WIP and stock inventory levels
  • Identifies, suggests, and implements improvement opportunities in the sales and customer service processes for EQS and ENS
  • Offers technical and operational expertise to customers
  • Coordinates the investigation to conclusion and resolution of customer claims in conjunction with Metallurgy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required or a commensurate level of experience; Metallurgy or Material Science Degree is preferred
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience in sales/marketing function in steel producing market preferred
