Technical Project Monitor - Office of Geothermal

About the role

This position supports the U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO), specifically the Office of Geothermal (OG). OG’s mission is to accelerate the discovery and development of gigawatt-scale geothermal energy and position geothermal as a competitive domestic source for reliable baseload electricity generation. The role focuses on the Pilots and Demonstrations portfolio, including enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) demonstration projects, reservoir improvements for EGS, and thermal energy storage.

Responsibilities

• Project monitoring of geothermal RD&D awards from inception to close-out in collaboration with OG federal staff, including:
  • Developing notice of funding opportunities to project retrospectives.
  • Negotiating new award packages.
  • Tracking award research progress (scope, schedule, and budget) through quarterly report review.
  • Reviewing and providing input to interim project deliverables and final technical reports.
• Coordination, communication, and meeting preparation/scheduling with internal and external stakeholders in support of OG-funded projects.
• Processing and tracking award modifications using government systems.
• Merit reviews of submitted research proposals/funding applications.
• Supporting the development, coordination, and management of competitive solicitations and merit reviews.
• Engaging with OG stakeholders to address needs and gaps at the Federal level.
• Assisting in the development of internal briefing materials for decision makers and contributing technical reviews of external communications.
• Representing the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia, and industry partners.
• Assisting in coordination efforts with government agency partners external to OG.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline (e.g., Petroleum Engineering, Geophysical Engineering).
• 5+ years of experience.
• Client/stakeholder relations experience.
• Professional attitude and strong attention to detail.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Teams).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and independent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
• Ability to balance multiple long- and short-term projects with competing priorities.
• Familiarity with geothermal technologies.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Successful drug screening.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in reservoir systems, drilling/well construction, well completion design, reservoir characterization, production/injection operations, and/or geothermal reservoir systems.
• Project management and coordination experience or PMP certification.
• Experience tracking and monitoring government-funded research and development projects.
• Experience working within the Department of Energy (DOE).
• Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Location

This position can be located in Golden, CO or Washington, DC and follows a hybrid work arrangement. Employees are expected to report to the office a minimum of 2 days per week.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday – Friday, 40-hour work week.

Pay

Starting compensation for this role typically ranges between $75,000 and $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and geographic location.
